A hard-working FC Luzern has some good chances, but sins in the end and can no longer overcome the Geneva defense in the final phase.
FC Luzern : Servette FC 0:2 (0:1)
The FCL starting line-up
Today, the name Meyer appears twice on the list – but don’t worry, this isn’t a misprint. With shirt number 7 Max Meyer started in midfield and with number 33 Leny Meyer as full-back.
The goals
29 minutes: Ronny Rodelin beats Marco Burch on the left. Then he plays the ball Timothy Cognathe delays and hits with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area to make it 1-0 for the Grenats.
90 minutes: In added time, Servette even managed to make it 2-0 Enzo Crivelli. The FCL defense was not ready at all here and has already written off the game.
game report
As usual, Mario Frick’s team started the game with a lot of vigor and effort towards the Geneva goal. The best chance clears in the starting phase through Ardon Jashari. After 15 minutes he pulls from around 25 meters and hits the ball on the post. Servette goalkeeper Jérémy Frick had no chance of getting the ball.
Somewhat contrary to the course of the game, the first goal succeeds, but not the FCL, but Servette. Cognat made it 1-0 for Geneva after a mistake by the FCL defense. After conceding, the Lucerne team seemed shocked and didn’t get a good chance for a long time. In the 40th minute, a cross from Asumah Abubakar lands in front of Jakub Kadak’s feet. The young Slovak shoots over the goal from five meters – that should have been the equalizer.
After the half-time break, the FCL tried to take control of the game again, but many of the Lucerne attacks ended without a shot on the Geneva goal. In response, Frick brings in Joaquin Ardaiz for Kadak. Just a few minutes later, Leny Meyer’s working day is over, he had a difficult time today. Newcomer Ismajl Beka comes in for him.
Napkin defends with every man. The FCL can play near the penalty area, but cannot overcome the Servette bulwark. Samuele Campo (for Max Meyer) and Lorik Emini (for Christian Gentner) are also unable to provide the decisive input. In return, Geneva even made it 2-0 after a counterattack. In stoppage time, Simani pulls the emergency brake and sees a red card. The FCL did not end this game with 11 players either.
That says FCL trainer Mario Frick
“We had a great start to the party, so the result is a disappointment.”
“We weren’t efficient enough. We tried everything, but Servette was calmer and had the better chance evaluation. »
“I don’t understand why the VAR has to intervene in the 95th minute.”
Mario Frick after the game.
