Wolves missed their chance to sign the centre-back
Wolves have reportedly missed the chance to sign Strasbourg centre-back Alexander Djiku as they turned their attention to missed target Craig Dawson.
The Lowdown: Shortage of centre-backs at Wolves
While Bruno Lage will be happy with his overall efforts in the summer transfer window, the center of his defense currently looks light.
Granted, Nathan Collins came over from Burnley, but Wolves have also seen former stalwarts Conor Coady, Romain Saiss and Willy Boly move on.
It looked like Dawson was going to come late into the window, but it was a move that ultimately didn’t materialize.
The Latest: Djiku could have been signed
According The Team [via Sport Witness]Wolves were given the chance to sign Djiku from Strasbourg, only to focus on capturing Dawson instead.
It is said that Wanderers ‘had the requested €6m’ to sign the 28-year-old ‘but preferred to sign’ the West Ham man.
The verdict: Could be a big mistake
Djiku has been an impressive performer for Strasbourg lately, winning on average three aerial duels per game in Ligue 1 so far this season.
He could be a younger and superior target to Dawson, who not only failed to join Wolves but also squandered their chances of signing the Ghanaian.
Hopefully that won’t look like a big mistake over time – free agent Jason Denayer is linked with a move, which could alleviate the problem – but chances are it’s a big missed opportunity.
