Ice hockey: Salzburg loses in CHL after overtime against Tampere – winter sports
After the 3-2 win over the Stavanger Oilers on Thursday, ICE champions Salzburg also have to go into extra time in the second Champions League game two days later. This time, however, the Red Bulls didn’t have a happy ending with a 2:3 aet (1:0,0:0,1:2;0:1).
In a fast exchange of blows worth seeing with good chances for both sides, it is not clear for a long time who will be the winner.
There was only one goal in the first 40 minutes. Three seconds before the end of the first third, Ali Wukovits unexpectedly scored the opening goal for the home side while outnumbered.
In the second third, either the goalkeeper or the pole or bar dies preventing further goals on both sides.
In the final section, the hosts shift up a gear. In the 42nd minute, Jyrki Jokipakka equalized for the Finns.
The Hungarian Balasz Sebök increased in the 50th minute from an urge phase to 2:1 for the guests. When everything looked like the Finns would win, Benjamin Nissner made it 2-2 after a Schneider shot just 45 seconds before the final siren.
Last-minute hits make the decision
In the 3-on-3 overtime, Salzburg are initially considered, but 16 seconds before some necessary shootout, Joona Icons scored the decisive goal for Tampere.
In the second game of Group E, Stavanger had previously beaten Fribourg-Götteron 1-0. Stavanger leads after two matchdays with four points in front of Freiburg and Salzburg (3 points each), Tampere has two.
Before Salzburg meet the Swiss, the Mozart city-dwellers now have to play the second leg away against Stavanger (Friday, 6 p.m.) and Tampere (Sunday, 3 p.m.).
On Sunday (8.20 p.m.) Villacher SV will be in action in Group F for the second time. After the 0:7 against the Swedish champion Färjestad Karlstad, the Carinthians play again on foreign ice against Comarch Cracovia (Krakow) in Poland.
About the mode: The eight group winners and runners-up after the first and second round are in the round of 16.
