Departure barriers: municipalities satisfied – salzburg.ORF.at
Traffic
The affected neighboring communities are satisfied with the Heurige controls of the exit barriers along the Tauernautobahn (A10). This shows a first balance of the travel summer that is slowly coming to an end.
Last year, there was still some strong criticism of the checks on the exit barriers – these were inadequate, complained the neighboring communities along the A10. On the first voyage weekend in September, southbound travel was still heavy but flowing smoothly. At the Kuchl (Tennengau) exit, there were no longer any checkpoints installed to monitor the exit barrier. They are not necessary because hardly anyone wants to leave the motorway at this point anyway, it said.
Kuchl satisfied with controls
In any case, people in Kuchl are satisfied with this year’s travel summer. “When there were problems on the freeway, the inspectors immediately went to the entrance and tried to stop the traffic passing through. That was largely successful – of course there were sometimes traffic jams on weekends, and traffic has also increased enormously,” says Deputy Mayor Carmen Kiefer (ÖVP).
Quiet return traffic on Saturday
The return traffic on Saturday was also unproblematic in the north direction – there was no traffic jam in front of the chain of tunnels near Werfen (Pongau) and the exit barrier was not checked here in the morning. The ÖAMTC congestion consultants also observed more checks.
Wals: “More traffic this year, but it worked”
On the other hand, possible refugees from the motorway were still checked in Wals (Flachgau) on Saturday – those drivers who wanted to avoid the traffic jam via the Viehhausen district were sent back to the Westautobahn (A1). “Although there was more traffic this year than in the last two years, it basically worked very well. The roadblocks worked and the checkpoints, especially in Viehhausen, also worked. But we still have a lot of traffic in the direction of the Kleiner Walserberg – that affects entry and exit,” summarizes the Mayor of Walser, Joachim Maislinger (ÖVP).
Better information for drivers required
All in all, after this summer’s tourist traffic, there was praise for the controls – but there was still room for improvement, especially when it came to informing drivers, was the tenor on Saturday.
