Benoit Costil could have signed up for Marseille this summer
At the end of the afternoon, AJ Auxerre receives Olympique de Marseille. So it will be a reunion between Benoit Costil and OM. If he was the one – and he himself admitted it – who caused the Girondins de Bordeaux to lose their invincibility at home against Olympique de Marseille last season (0-1), the ex- Bordeaux porter could quite simply have signed up with OM this summer.
In effect, according to L’Equipea few days away from committing to a season (with an optional year) with AJ Auxerre, Benoit Costil received a call from the President of Olympian, Pablo Longoria. It was on Saturday July 9, when OM had just let another former French international leave for Stade Rennais, Steve Mandanda. Pablo Longoria was then looking for a number 2 goalkeeper in Pau Lopez, and Benoit Costil seemed to fit the profile sought.
“Longoria met before the fact that he is looking for someone with an impeccable mentality and who will not cause problems in the dressing room. The agent is put in the loop, Costil is excited about the project and the Marseille manager promises everyone to move forward on this file the following Monday.
Obviously, and as you have understood, Pablo Longoria will never call back Benoit Costil, who is probably waiting for news, in vain. Following three days of waiting and therefore no news, the international goalkeeper (1 selection) decides to join Jean-Marc Furlan at AJA. In Marseille, “The OM president moved on to something else very quickly: the arrival of Ruben Blanco from Celta Vigo”.
