The school directors in the city of Salzburg are still waiting for the promised administrative assistants who are supposed to relieve the directors. They were originally announced for the start of school – but this is unrealistic because the positions have not even been advertised yet.
There are currently five administrative assistants in the city of Salzburg. Nine additional positions are planned for the coming school year. And they are also sorely needed, says the headmaster of the middle school in Salzburg-Parsch, Andreas Hetzenauer.
“Schools definitely need additional administrative support. The area of activity of a school administration is very extensive and varied.
Positions are expected to be filled in November
At the beginning of the new school year, however, many headmasters still have to come without additional support. According to Education Minister Daniela Gutschi (ÖVP), the positions for the administrative assistants should be filled at short notice in November. The state of Salzburg is still waiting for the associated guidelines from the federal government, only then can the positions be advertised.
For seven years, the state of Salzburg has been trying to organize more support for the school management. When a school hires an administrative assistant, the cost of this is shared between the state and the municipality. According to the Office of the State Councilor for Education, three quarters of Salzburg’s compulsory schools employ female administrative assistants.
