Salzburg halftime: Your running challenge in October
Are you looking for new challenges? Then the Salzburger Halbe on October 2nd is your stage. Realize your goals on the fast half-marathon course along the Salzach or on the 5km circuit in the green and shady Volksgarten.
Your look at the sports watch – quick step! Your view of the old town – uniquely beautiful. Your view of the Salzach – calm and refreshing! The view of the newly designed Volksgarten – relaxed and active! The Salzburger Half makes your runner’s heart happy from many perspectives.
Traditional running date at the beginning of October
“With the Salzburg half, the traditional amateur run finds a contemporary continuation,” says organizer Johannes Langer. “Over half the marathon distance, sporting ambition and the motivating, shared running experience complement each other perfectly.” He is certain: “For many Salzburg residents, this will be one of the highlights of the active autumn at home.”
Target your best time!
The route of the Salzburg Half forms an optimal framework to improve your personal best. It is flat, contains hardly any curves and allows an excellent running rhythm on the long straights. With fresh, autumnal morning temperatures, the kilometers fly by while the city of Mozart slowly wakes up. The leaves of the trees along the river banks, dipped in bright colors, carry your run in a golden frame. In addition, the changing perspectives of the cultural and architectural beauties of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Salzburg’s old town, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2022, will motivate you during the course of the race.
Salzburg’s flagship runner Peter Herzog won the half marathon on this route last year as part of the Lauf.Sport.Fest.Salzburg and then said in surprise: “This is probably the fastest half marathon route that I have temporarily run in Austria.”
Shorter walking distances increasingly popular
At the Salzburg Half not only runners with stamina find their attractive challenge, but also lovers of short distances. With the 5km road run measured according to the rules of the AIMS (association of international marathon and road races) and the World Athletics Association (World Athletics), the organizing Club RunAustria is jumping on the trend in running, which is causing enthusiasm for shorter distances to increase sharply. The importance of this distance, which can be managed by every runner, is also increasing internationally, in 2023 there will be world championships in 5km road running for the first time.
“Thanks to many renovations, the Volksgarten has become a real active park for runners too. That’s why we offer a gentle introduction to the running scene, especially for returnees and newcomers with the 5K Park Challenger. The five laps should provide a great incentive and create a lot of motivation for upcoming challenges,” says Langer, who looks back on almost four decades of experience as a running coach and at the same time has been sending out important impulses for a health-conscious lifestyle with his running events in Salzburg for almost two millennia.
