More than 12 million tourists have visited Paris and
Tourist activity has picked up again in the capital, after three years of idling due to the health crisis.
Nearly 18.2 million tourists visited Paris and Île-de-France between January and June 2022. That is 10.8 million French tourists and 7.4 million internationals. This represents 12.5 million more people than in 2021 (+218%), 5.4 million less than the same period in 2019 (-23%).
Tourism generated revenues of 7 billion euros during the first half of 2022, a level despite everything down 30% compared to that of 2019.
The summer of 2022 is showing good tourist numbers. From June to August, 9.9 million visitors walked the streets of the capital according to the Parisian tourism barometer. The month of July was particularly good, with a hotel occupancy rate which reached 79.5% in inner Paris, i.e. 0.5 points more than in 2019.
Americans represent 20% of the tourism market share in Paris and its region for the period June-August 2022. Next come the English, who weigh for 10%, then the Spaniards (8%), the Germans (8%) and Italians (6%).
Moreover, the Italians came in much greater numbers than in the summer of 2019 (+33%), as did the Spaniards (+8%) and the Germans (+1%), who also opted for a trip between neighbors in the European Union. The number of tourists from the Netherlands jumped 32% to 406,000, while those from Brazil rose 5% to 111,000.
The number of international tourists, however, fell by 42% to 7.4 million visitors this season. The cause ? The very gradual resumption of air traffic and the reduction of health restrictions. The decline was the weakest among the French who were 10.8 million to visit the capital and its region (-22%).
These figures show clear progress compared to 2021. There are 6.5 million additional French tourists and 6 million more international tourists over the first six months of the year.
