Liechtenstein follows suit with further commodity, trade and financial sanctions
On Friday, September 2, 2022, the government decided to amend the regulation on measures related to the situation in Ukraine. As part of the adjustment, the remaining parts of the EU were autonomously implemented the goods, trade and financial sanctions against Russia that were decided on July 21, 2022. An active part of these sanctions was already implemented on July 26 and August 4, 2022. The EU also decided on September 1, 2022 new restrictive measures against three people. These are also part of the amendment to the ordinance decided today. The government is thus consistently continuing its previous policy.
In addition to the six packages of sanctions already in place, the EU decided on July 21, 2022 to enact a further package of measures against Russia. The “maintenance and adjustment” package is intended to strengthen the effectiveness of the EU’s previous sanctions packages, ensure legal certainty for investments and facilitate the enforcement of sanctions.
With the autonomous implementation of the clear provisions of the sanctions package of July 21, 2022, Liechtenstein applies a series of measures aimed at preventing sanctions from being circumvented. For example, the scope of the ban on accepting deposits will be extended and the acceptance of deposits for cross-border trading that is not prohibited is now subject to prior approval. In addition, the EU made some clarifications on existing measures, particularly in the areas of public procurement, aviation and the judiciary.
By implementing the sanctions, the renewed government is reiterating that the blatant violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is unacceptable.
