Canada blanks Sweden 3-0 to set up the semifinal match against Switzerland
Canada bounced back from a 5-2 loss to the United States in its final preliminary game by defeating Sweden 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championships.
The win advanced Canada to the semis, where they will take on Switzerland, who beat Japan 2-1 in a shootout.

Then, in the final period, Erin Ambrose added an insurance marker, assisted by Potomak and Emma Maltais.
Sweden’s goalkeeper Emma Söderberg was bombarded with 57 shots, and did her best to keep her team in the game. Meanwhile, Canadian netminder Ann-Renee Desbiens only needed to make nine saves for the shutout.
The semi-final between Switzerland and Canada takes place on Saturday at 9 PST.
In the other quarterfinals, the USA beat Hungary 12-1. They will face the Czech Republic, who upset Finland 2-1 in extra time. The Czech Republic has never medaled in the history of the Women’s World Championships.
