The first historic time of San Marino at the pigeon-loving Olympics
The 37th edition of the pigeon-loving Olympics took place on 12 and 13 August in Oradea, Romania, with the first historic participation of a representative of San Marino traveling pigeons.
In fact, from 2020, following the planned procedure, theAssociation of San Marino owners and amateurs of pigeonswhich deals with traveling and show pigeons, uniting amateurs both from the Republic of San Marino and foreign sympathizers, has been recognized by the International Colombian Federation acquiring all the rights and, therefore, also the possibility to participate in international events.
The president of Aspac, Alessandro Segnini Bocchia di San Lorenzoand the responsible pigeons, Matteo Grappa, who is also president of the FCI International Sports Commissionattended the International congress proudly representing the colors of the Republic of San Marino which, despite the young age of the association, can count on a representation of value that guarantees Aspac a certain centrality on the international scene.
For the representatives of the San Marino Pigeon Owners and Amateurs Association this important recognition represents only the starting point towards an ever more daring presence on the international scene of San Marino pigeons, which in September will compete for the title at the Mira World Championship in Portugal.
While working on the 3rd San Marino colombiculture championshipexpected for January 2023 with the precious and decisive collaboration of Giovanni Francesco Ugolini, founding partner of Aspacduring which there will also be a launch of racing pigeons valid for San Marino Grand Prix.
With the wish to see more and more winged athletes and San Marino enthusiasts, the Aspac representatives thank the San Marino institutions for the precious collaboration and constant support without which it would not have been possible to achieve these goals.
Colombophilia, or pigeon-loving sport, is the sporting activity carried out with traveling pigeons. These winged athletes are able to return to their home (dovecote) from considerable distances, up to 900 / 1,000 km in one day.
The races consist in releasing the pigeons from a given point and ranking them on the basis of the fastest return home speed, to check the return time each pigeon is equipped with an electronic chip that is scanned when returning to the dovecote from a platform electronics that sends the data to a measuring clock.
The competitions are organized by the national federations / associations that are part of the organized pigeon-loving federation, the part of which more than 60 countries and millions of fans.
As for almost all sports, pigeon sport also has its Olympics where every two years the best pigeons in the world compete in various categories and where the FCI Congress is held at the same time among the delegates of the affiliated federations / associations.
