Police standby unit: change of shift – salzburg.ORF.at
timeline
The first shift change has now taken place in the Salzburg police on-call unit. This special unit of the Salzburg police should close the gap between the normal police officers and the special forces of the Cobra. It was founded after the terrorist attack in Vienna in 2020.
It has been around for a year now and according to general knowledge it has proven itself. Now was the first shift change. The 52 police officers of the Salzburg Police Rapid Response Unit (SRK) come from all over the state. They are sent out seven times a day on average, and there have been 2,500 deployments since September 2021.
State Police Director Bernhard Rausch is satisfied with the first year of the special unit. “From my point of view, the establishment of the rapid reaction forces, i.e. the standby unit, has already proven itself very well in the first year. They are a valuable addition to the colleagues on regular patrol duty,” says Rausch.
Used for burglaries, demos, soccer games, etc
The fast and flexible task force is used at demonstrations as well as at football games, at festival drives or as support in the event of accidents or burglaries.
The rush of young police officers to the unit is obviously great – there are significantly more candidates than free places.
