Genoa, the interventions of medium complexity scheduled at San Martino can also be carried out at Villa Scassi
The Region explains: patients will be contacted in the coming days by San Martino and will be able to choose whether to keep the surgery at the polyclinic or carry it out at the Sampierdarena hospital, with a shorter wait
Genoa – Starting from next week they can also be carried out at the Villa Scassi hospital in Sampierdarena medium complexity surgeries initially scheduled at the San Martino Polyclinic, thus speeding up time and reducing waiting lists. This was announced by a note from the Liguria Region. Patients will be contacted in the coming days by the staff of San Martino and will be able to choose whether to keep the surgery at the Polyclinic or carry it out at Villa Scassi, with a shorter wait: in this case, the Sampierdarena hospital will contact them very soon for all the necessary procedures, adds the Region.
This is the outcome of the meeting convened by the president of the Liguria Region and councilor for health Giovanni Toti with the heads of the polyclinic, Alisa and Asl3. In recent days, the Region had the intention to ask for the collaboration of the other Genoese hospitals after the director of San Martino Salvatore Giuffri decided with an extraordinary and unprecedented measure, generally the planned surgical interventions and freeze the lists of to give absolute precedence to the patients who wait, they must be operated on for cancer.
“What we do is a reprogramming – affirms the president of the Region – to make the hospitals of the city more efficient and reduce waiting times. With a view to increasing synergy and collaboration between the structures of the Policlinico San Martino, Asl3 and the other centers of the city, we are proceeding with a new programming of high, medium and low complexity interventions with the aim of making more efficient the operating facilities of individual hospitals. In this way, the policy of collaboration and synergy already implemented for many months between our hospitals and healthcare companies, for example between Galliera and Asl 4 for Orthopedic Surgery, between Galliera and Asl1 for Urology, between San Martino and Asl3 for Gynecology, between Asl2, University and San Martino for Anesthesia and Reanimation “.
“The model of pooling human, technological and logistic resources – explains the general manager of Alisa Filippo Ansaldi – he is one that we have shared and that imposes itself in this moment of great demand and resources which, in a model of the regional health system, are limited at national level. Even the regional inter-company departments and are responses that respond to this model, with the aim of daring to meet health needs in a network logic “.
“There lack of resources of health professionals widely described and represented both nationally and normally locally – adds the general manager of Asl3 Luigi Carlo Bottaro – requires at all levels an urgent and important rethinking of hospital and territorial organizational and contractual methods. With the organizational agreements that have been activated between Asl3 and Policlinico San Martino, and which hopefully will be activated in the future, the regional health service seeks, virtuously internally, the solution to the dutiful and responsible need to give a prompt, adequate response and aware of the citizens’ need for health, overcoming the rigidity of the boundaries of the various companies, which in compliance with the individual organizations will simultaneously pursue the and further improvement of therapeutic diagnostic paths and system efficiency “.
“The Polyclinic San Martino continues with the surgical production policy based on high complexity which during the first half of 2022 saw an increase compared to the production of 2019, the last pre-pandemic – underlines the general director Salvatore Giuffrida – and as part of these activities today, for example, a neurosurgical patient arrived via Umbrian helicopter rescue from Perugia . This kind of operation, deriving from the status of the 2nd level San Martino di Dea and regional hub, certifies that some activities will be diverted to the Villa Scassi colleagues, with a view to increasing coordination on the Genoese metropolitan area. In addition, the 660 helicopter landings hosted by us in 12 months further confirm the role of San Martino as a regional hub due to its high complexity and certify its production capacity “.
