Climatologist: Slovakia is making money on the problem by not capturing water. Droughts will only worsen in the coming years
After the drought came the rains, the heat was replaced by cold. Are we experiencing statistically normal weather? Air conditioning Pavel Matejovič claims that this summer was extremely dry and unusually warm.
“The drought we’ve been experiencing this summer didn’t just start now, it’s been going on for longer. There has been a deficit of atmospheric precipitation since September of last year,” he adds.
Consequence of climate change
According to him, it did not help that the last winter was poor in snow and there was no precipitation later in the spring. The consequences of the drought were finally multiplied in the summer, which was temperature outside the norm.
“Warm air intensifies the drying of the soil, which means that in addition to the precipitation deficit, there were also high temperatures,” says the climatologist, adding that long-term forecasts already warn of this in May of this year.
