5-star hotels in Athens are full – tourism is “flying”.

Thus, in recent years, Athens has managed to emerge as a destination for “city breaks”, for business trips, for investments, and even for film productions.

In this context, in recent years the number of hotels in Athens has multiplied, with investors showing their priority mainly in units of the 4 and 5 star categories.
It is characteristic that during the last five years – according to data from GBR Consulting – 37 new 4 and 5 star units (1,758 rooms) have been added to the hotel potential of Athens, further upgrading the city’s tourist product. To these 37 hotels, another 16 4 and 5 star hotels were added, after renovation of existing units.
In absolute numbers, five-star hotels in Athens (Central, South, North and West) increased from 24 (4,934 rooms) in 2017 to 34 (5,539 rooms) by 2022, while correspondingly, four-star hotels from 60 (5,195 rooms) that it was in 2017, reaching 90 (7,101 rooms) by 2022!
In total, between 2017-2022, 71 new hotels have made their debut in Athens, representing 20% ​​of the units and 14% of the rooms currently offered in the Greek capital.
The “war” of brands…
With the research of GBR Consulting, in the last five years, the rooms of the base hotels that are in the omela of an international brand (hotel brand) and were added to the hotel potential of the capital, come to 2,002.
Indicative of the penetration of international chains in the Athenian hotel market, is that now 1 in 5 rooms (20%) belongs to an international hotel brand, while approximately 8% of the capital’s units are under the umbrella of an international hotel group.
Brand hotels that premiered in the last five years include Academia of Athens (Marriott Autograph Collection), Athens Capital (Accor MGallery), Dave Red (Brown Hotels), Ibis Styles Athens Routes (Accor), Moxy Athens City (Marriott), Perianth (Marriott – Design Hotels), Selina Theatrou Athens and Wyndham Athens Residences.
During the same period, another 7 hotels were renovated, renamed and now carry an international brand: Athens Marriott, Brown Acropol, Kubic House, Lighthouse Athens (Brown Hotels), Grand Hyatt Athens and two units of Convo Hotels.
…and the new arrivals
Among the “arrivals” expected in the coming years, Radisson Individuals in Kolonaki and Radisson Red (serviced apartments), Hilton Curio Collection (Pendeliko), NYX (Fattal) in place of the former Esperia Palace, One & Only in Asteria Glyfada, the international brands that will land in Elliniko.
Also, the former Hilton Athens will be reintroduced to its guests as an integrated tourist destination, with the hotel bearing the Conrad brand and the branded residences bearing the Conrad and Waldorf Astoria brands.
