“The situation is alarming to say the least for our region – he underlines Mauro Rossato, President of the Vega Engineering Safety Observatory of Mestre – because, beyond the absolute values, the positioning of Veneto in the orange zone tells us that the ratio between accidents and the working population is higher than the national average. The figure in terms of absolute numbers is also disheartening, which places us in second position at the national level in this sad and ranking. We continue to count many victims and it should also be considered that fatal accidents due to COVID have almost completely disappeared in these numbers. This means that during the fatal accidents that occurred during work, excluding COVID cases, they increased at the same time last year ».
To facilitate the reading of the data on the risk of death at work, the Observatory of Mestre has devised and elaborated the mapping of the risk of death at work, dividing Italy in color just like the mapping used during the pandemic emergency. The orange zone, the one in which the Veneto fallsis the band that – after the red – groups the regions with the highest incidence for fatal accidents at work and therefore above the national average.
From January to July 2022, in fact, Veneto has an accident rate of 18.7, between the national average value (18.3 deaths at work for every 1,000,000 employed persons) and 125% of the national average incidence.
