Transmissibility index exceeded the threshold of 1 in Portugal
According to INSA’s weekly report on the evolution of the number of cases of covid-19, the Rt – which estimates the number of secondary cases of fe resulting from each person carrying the virus – increased from 0.95 estimated on August 19 to 1 .02 on Friday.
“The value of Rt was constantly below 1 between May 30 and August 19” in Portugal, says the INSA document, also indicating that four regions of the country have this indicator above this threshold.
The highest Rt is recorded in the Azores (1.26), followed by the North (1.08), Madeira (1.07) and the Center (1.06), while the Algarve has 0.97 , Lisbon and Tagus Valley with 0.96 and Alentejo with 0.93.
The daily average of cases also rose nationally, from 2,716 to 2,769, but continues to record one of the lowest values of the year for this indicator.
The highest average of cases in 2022 was recorded at the end of January, with 49,795 daily infections by SARS-CoV-2.
INSA estimates that, since March 2, 2020 and until August 26, Portugal has registered a total of 5,416,981 cases of infection with the coronavirus that causes covid-19.
