President of the Republic defends “fairer and more egalitarian Portugal” on Day of Afro-descendants – Observer
The President of the Portuguese Republic joined the United Nations this Wednesday in evoking the International Day of People of African Descentdefending “a fairer and more egalitarian Portugal” and remembering those who are still subject to racism.
In an observation note on the Internet, Marcelo Rebelousa joins the United Nations to “mark the International Day of People of African Descent, saluting the people of African descent among us and all those still subject to racism and racial discrimination”.
“May this day remind us of the importance of coming together for a fairer, more egalitarian Portugal for all”, defends the Portuguese head of state.
Also today, the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, noted that “millions of people of African descent are still criticism of racism and racial discriminationdeeply rooted and systemic”.
The UN General Assembly requests, in agreement with the Secretary-General, the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Effective Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Program of Action to prepare a United Nations declaration on the promotion and full respect of the human rights of afrodescendants.
The Forum, created by the UN in the month and made up of 10 members who will start the Human Rights Council, will have production as its main task.
