New solution found: sewage treatment plant is about to retire
The waste water from Neustift, Fulpmes, Telfes and Mieders will be pumped to Innsbruck from 2025 and cleaned there by the municipal companies.
BODYERS/STUBAI. Everything new at the Stubaital Wastewater Association! The Fulpmer Alt-Bgm. Robert Denifl, who has been chairman of the association since it was founded 46 years ago, chaired its last general meeting in July. His successor is his list colleague GV Raimund Schmidt. Before retiring, the long-term chairman set the course for a completely new wastewater solution for the Stubaital (Schönberg excluded) with the board.
Risks outsourced
This was necessary because the sewage treatment plant in Mieders was no longer state of the art after 30 years of service. The space on the site is also very limited. For years, those responsible have therefore checked all activated alternatives – from a new building to the fact that the Fulpmer ÖBB power plant is integrated into the wastewater disposal system. “Adapting the plant at the existing location would of course be the most logical option. But that would have cost around 20 million euros,” says association manager Hannes Ellmerer. And Neo-Chairman Schmidt added: “But then we would never have known whether there would be a need for action again in ten years if limit values were to be increased or something similar.”
1.5 million euros per year
This is how the conclusion was reached that it makes the most economic sense if the waste water is likely to be routed to Innsbruck. The state of Tyrol has also confirmed that this is the best solution, and it was from their side that the impetus for it was given. In the innovative plant of the Innsbrucker Kommunalbetriebe (IKB) in Rossau, there is enough free capacity for the waste water of the 13,000 valley residents plus up to 30,000 guests. The four communities affected have already agreed and the disposal contract with IKB has already been finalised. In future, Neustift, Fulpmes, Telfes and Mieders will jointly pay a flat rate of 1.5 million euros per year for cleaning.
Large-scale works
A new sewer is needed to direct the sewage in the state capital. It runs from the sewage treatment plant in Mieders via the Gallhof to the roundabout at Mutters. At the expense of the IKB, it will be realized in stages over the next few years – partly in connection with the Stubai cycle path. The work will start in October. A pumping station must also be set up to ensure that everything gets where it is supposed to go. Part of the sewage treatment plant will be rebuilt for this purpose. The Stubaital Wastewater Association invested around two million euros in this and subsequently also assumes the operating costs. The basins of the current sewage treatment plant remain as a buffer in the event of failures. The rest of the area will be free and should be usable for infrastructural purposes from 2025 after all work has been completed.
Telfer driveway closed
From Monday, September 5th, the Telfer Auffahrt will be closed to traffic for a period of three to four weeks! The reason for the closure is the construction of the stormwater overflow basin and the construction of a new canal from Telfes to the sewage treatment plant. There is also a blockage and difficulties on the way to the Wasserhäusel.
