Ex-Salzburg striker becomes Baumgartlinger teammate – football
Former Bulls striker Mergim Berisha is moving to FC Augsburg. Most recently, he played for Austria’s conqueror Fenerbahce Istanbul in Turkey.
Mergim Berisha is moving to FC Augsburg! The former Red Bull Salzburg striker moves back to his German homeland and becomes a new teammate of ÖFB legionnaire Julian Baumgartlinger. The former German U21 international will initially move to the Bundesliga club on loan. Augsburg also secures a purchase option.
“I am very happy that the move to FCA worked out, after all it has always been a big dream of mine to play in the Bundesliga. The conditions in Augsburg are ideal and I already know a few players from my time with the U21s. That’s why I’m convinced that I won’t have to get used to it for long and I’m already dying for my first assignment,” says Berisha, looking forward to assignments for his new club.
From Salzburg via Turkey to Germany
Most recently, the 24-year-old was under contract with Fenerbahce in Turkey. The club from Istanbul defeated Austria Vienna in the Europa League Play-Off. The tall striker was not used in either game. He has only played once in the Süper Lig this season, scoring one goal.
Until 2021, Berisha caused a sensation in the domestic Bundesliga. In appearances for LASK, Altach and Salzburg, he scored 35 goals and 24 assists in 88 appearances.
