Decision on citizens’ requests for company expansion
politics
In Adnet (Tennengau), the electoral authority will decide on Wednesday whether there will be a citizens’ initiative for the planned expansion of the sun protection manufacturer Schlotterer in the grassland. A citizens’ initiative collected signatures.
The “Save the Adnetfelder” initiative collected 430 signatures for the citizens’ petition in the 3,700-inhabitant community and submitted them at the end of July. According to the mayor, the administration checks all of these beforehand. And the spokesman for the initiative, the architect Georg Scheicher, emphasized that everything was correct when it came to the signatures against the expansion.
“Municipal electoral authority checks every vote”
For a referendum, 299 valid signatures are needed, says Mayor Wolfgang Auer (ÖVP): “The municipal elections authority, which is made up of different factions in the municipality, will check every single vote and then issue a decision at the end that is either positive or negative is. Either there is no citizens’ initiative held. Or one will be held.” This decision should be available next week.
The project opponents are confident. If there are not enough valid signatures, you can submit some from the reserve at any time.
Result not legally binding
It’s not about spitting on the Schlotterer company, says Scheicher: The project is simply not compatible, oversized and leads to burdens on the citizens due to more traffic and fewer local recreation areas.
Should the electoral authority decide in favor of a citizens’ initiative, everything related to the project should be put on hold until the result, says Mayor Auer. However, the result itself is not legally binding for the municipal council.
