Basketball – Cologne – Schröder: Future after basketball career in Braunschweig – Sport
Cologne (AP) – Unlike superstar Dirk Nowitzki, Dennis Schröder sees his future after his basketball career in Germany. “Maybe I still have a house in Italy or Spain, but the base will be in Braunschweig,” said Schröder, who has been active in the North American NBA league for years, in an interview with Sports Illustrated magazine.
The 28-year-old point guard, who started the European Championship with the German national team against France on Thursday in Cologne, was born in Braunschweig. “We have a lot of plans there, we want to build a lot,” said Schröder, who is already the sole shareholder of Bundesliga club Löwen Braunschweig.
“We want to set up a basketball center in Braunschweig, with a hall, medical department, gym and so on. With this facility, we could really push the location again,” said Schröder. In addition, the currently clubless NBA professional will invest in real estate and shops in his native city “to make the city a little bit more entertaining”.
In contrast, Nowitzki, who was born in Würzburg, still lives in the USA after his active career. The 44-year-old still lives in Dallas with his wife Jessica and their three children.
