The INESS Institute compiled the Health for Money ranking, Slovakia improved by one place in two years
In the Health for Money index compiled by the Institute of Economic and Social Analysis (INESS), Slovakia in 2022 ranked 19th out of 25 evaluated countries.
In 2020, it was in 20th place. The index measures the qualitative goal of healthcare, which is the health of patients. INESS informed about it in a press release.
Wage conditions of health workers
The Health for Money index takes into account the wealth of individual countries, but also different wage levels, which are the most prominent cost item in the health sector.
As specified by INESS, the absolute results of the countries are weighted in the index by health expenditures, adjusted for wages. After such adjustment of values, France, Switzerland and Germany found themselves in the ranking behind Slovakia.
“The low ranking of some rich countries is triggered by the fact that their above-average quality is paid for by very high expenses,” the institute explains.
Better health care
For the needs of the system, according to INESS, it is important that health expenditures are directed towards a clear goal, to improve the health of the population.
“In the Slovak reality, this means improving care for chronic patients, improving access to health services for marginalized communities, or increasing the quality of medical faculties,” the institute elaborated on its findings.

The assessment of income when providing subsidies for school supplies to emigrants from Ukraine will change
The conditions for the use of household income when providing subsidies for school needs to a child with special protection or a child whose legal representative is a person with special protection are changed.
When assessing the income, the income will be examined only for the last month preceding the day of submission of the application for the subsidy. This follows from the regulation approved by the government.
A person with special protection is an emigrant from Ukraine who has been granted temporary refuge or a person who has applied for asylum in Slovakia.
How to dedicate the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the household of a child with special care does not know the income for the last six months, as established by the current legal status. “This adjustment will allow subsidies for school supplies to be provided based on an assessment of the household income of a child with special protection,” the department said.
The income of the child and the natural person appointed as the child’s guardian will be assessed together.
