The interview with Stefano Pivato
250 pages of history, a journey into the particularities of a unique country in the world. The volume, edited by the director of the San Marino Center for Historical Studies Stefano Pivato together with the teacher Luca Gorgolini, was born from a precious team work: fifteen authors collaborated. As the Secretary of Culture explains Andrea Belluzzi to the Regency, the objective of the publication is part of the University’s mission: to spread knowledge of the territory. A story that starts from the Middle Ages to the present day. The thematic insights are divided into eleven chapters: from institutions to international relations, from displacement during the Second World War to the explosion of tourism.
And again: San Marino women and conquest of the vote, art, archaeological discoveries, urban transformations, emigration. There is also a chapter dedicated to journalism. The collaboration between long-time historians and young researchers has produced “a manual that crosses three generations” – says Pivato, and “from which different sensitivities and analyzes emerge”, adds Gorgolini. The Captains Regent Oscar Mina and Paolo Rondelli He underlines the commitment and sensitivity of the authors, “capable of development – they say – moments of reflection on the evolution over the centuries of the history of our country and to focus on an updated San Marino identity physiognomy”. A demanding job, an instrument of knowledge, but also a gift for the new generations. “Contemporary history – explains Pivato – is treated not only as history or of institutions but also includes fragments of social history that are rarely found in a manual, such as the history of emotions and sensations of a small community like San Marino. So yes, I find the definition of a gift perfect “.
