Soccer – Munich – Matthäus: Bayern’s game against Mönchengladbach a drone – Bayern
Berlin (dpa) – For record national player Lothar Matthäus, the Bundesliga is threatened with a highly one-sided title race despite the recent damper for FC Bayern Munich against Borussia Mönchengladbach. “This game doesn’t give hope for a close championship, it was more of a drone that Bayern would become champions by an unprecedented margin,” wrote the 61-year-old in his column for Sky TV. If the Munich team performed like they did in the 1-1 win against Gladbach in every game, “the biggest start-to-finish victory in the last 15 years” would be possible, judged Matthäus.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann could be asleep given the strength of his team and also have high hopes for more titles. “If Bayern keep this style, then not only will they become champions with a countless number of points and win the DFB Cup, but then they will finally be a very, very big favorite for me again for the title, which they absolutely want to win – namely the Champions League”, assured Matthäus.
Against Gladbach, the German record champions were quickly superior to the entire game, but missed numerous chances. Guest goalkeeper Yann Sommer also showed a brilliant performance. The Munich team is currently leading the table with the same number of points in front of 1. FC Union Berlin. On Saturday (3.30 p.m.) the two teams will meet in the capital.
