Portugal: Registration for WYD Lisbon 2023 will open until the end of October

Aparecida, Aug 30, 2022 (Ecclesia) – The president of the WYD Lisbon 2023 Foundation said today that registration for the World Youth Day, which will take place in Portugal, between the 1st and 6th of August, will open “until the end of the year”. October”.
“The Pope will be the first pilgrim to register and it will be possible until the end of October. And many, many from Brazil will follow”, said D. Américo Aguiar at a press conference held during the Plenary Assembly of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), which takes place this week at the National Shrine of Aparecida.
The one from Fundação JMJ Lisboa 2023, with three other members of the Local Organizing Committee of the journey that will take place in Portugal, are participating in the CNBB Assembly and will visit some dioceses in Brazil to invite and help young Brazilians on pilgrimage to Portugal.
“We are sure of one thing: World Youth Day without Brazil is not global. We want the Brazilian contingent to be the most numerous present in Lisbon, next, from August 1 to 6”, said the auxiliary bishop of Lisbon to journalists, in the National Sanctuary of Aparecida.
D. Américo Aguia recalled that the objective is that “no young person feels excluded, feels outside of this invitation to any elite, the invitation is for all young people in Brazil”.
President of the JMJ Lisbon 2023 Foundation referred to the financial difficulties, which can be an “obstacle” and said that the organization wants to create “better conditions for them to participate”, also referring to the opportunity for young people from the groups to enter, in the week prior to the day, in diocesan dynamics, throughout the country, in the so-called “Days in the Dioceses”.
“May the Lisbon Journey be a sign of hope, affection, love, in the difficult time we are living”, wished D. Américo Aguiar, remembering that “there are many who have only lived through misfortunes, now”, that “No I had another experience.
The Pope is hopeful that the Lisbon journey can be a sign of hope for us to walk towards the future”.
The president of the WYD Lisbon 2023 Foundation also indicated the themes that stem from Pope Francis’ encyclicals ‘Laudato Si’ and ‘Fratelli Tutti’ as outstanding in Portugal’s journey, wishing that ecology and fraternity are not just a “topic of conversation”, but an exercise in the “daily life” and a practice of the week of WYD.
“The journey’s entrance portico has no doors or windows, it’s wide open to everyone,” he said.
