Watch Robben Ford take his PRS guitar for a debut spin at an intimate club gig in Helsinki
Last June, electric guitar virtuoso Robben Ford took to social media showing off a six-string fretboard that appeared to be his first PRS signed guitar.
Nicely finished in black, the guitar features an oversized headstock – tribute, Ford explained (opens in a new tab) in last year’s Instagram post, for the CBS era Stratocaster headstocks – featuring Ford’s name on the truss rod cover, a pair of humbuckers with Ford’s personal seal, and a split pickup mini-switch.
Earlier this month (August 3), Ford finally took the six-string for a public spin at an intimate show at Koko Jazz Club in Helsinki, which Ford uploaded to his YouTube channel last week.
Ford uses PRS in his entire cigarette set, where he was supported by an all-Finnish band featuring Timo Hirvonen. bass guitar, Holger Marjamaa on organ and Jussi Lehtonen on drums. You can check it out for yourself below.
“How’s the guitar? Too loud? Not loud enough?” Ford asks the audience at one point. “This is a brand new guitar for me. It’s the first time I’ve played it live, so I’m fooling around with it a bit.”
He then demonstrates its capabilities with a smooth walkthrough Goa funky highlight from his 2021 instrumental album, Clean.
There were also performances in the series Bird’s nest tied and Everything I do will be funky (both from 2013 Bring it back home), and Which I haven’t donewhich will be on display in 2018 The purple house.
PRS, on the other hand, has yet to independently confirm any details of the Robben Ford model, but we’ll keep an eye on them and see if Ford uses it again at the higher-profile California dates. play in September.
