our ranking of the top 100 municipal police
Like every year, the Gazette des communes offers you an inventory of the largest municipal police forces in France. Main development compared to last year, the third place changes: with 365 municipal police officers as of December 31, 2021, against 358 in Toulouse, Lyon is back on the podium, alongside Nice and Marseille.
Contrary to what Gérald Darmanin suggested in his controversial letter sent in August to Grégory Doucetmayor of Lyon, the number of municipal police officers increased in the city between 2020 and 2021. The Ministry of the Interior counted 294 municipal police officers in 2020 followed by an increase of almost 25% at the end of 2021, to reach 365 proxies.
152 municipal police officers arrive in Paris
New, Paris enters the rankings with 152 police officers at the end of 2021. A number comparable to Tours, but it is necessary to add to the Parisian workforce 881 NEWT and controllers. The number of municipal police officers in Paris should increase rapidly, the stated objective being to reach more than 3,400 officers in the coming years.
The number of municipal police officers is growing thanks in particular to the signing of integrated security contracts (CSI), most of which require communities to make commitments on the recruitment of agents. Thus, by adding up the promises made by the forty communities that have signed a CSI, nearly 400 jobs should be created in the coming years.
The geography may not be changing: there are more agents in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur and Île-de-France and in the urban departments. The most significant changes compared to the previous year are in Meuse, Indre-et-Loire, Pas-de-Calais and Lozère.
