Brazil: Archdiocese of São Paulo wants to participate in WYD Lisbon 2023 with a «large group»
Meeting with the presence of a journey from Portugal marked the beginning of the preparation for the next journey
São Paulo, 29 Aug 2022 (Ecclesia) – The auxiliary bishop of São Paulo told the ECCLESIA Agency that he wants to participate in WYD Lisbon 2023 with a “large group” of young people and began to prepare with a meeting that surrounded a part of the COL from Portugal.
“Archdiosis is very large and we would not have complete control of how much they would go. But we want to bring together a large group, representative of the Archdiocese of São Paulo”, said Bishop Carlos Lema.
The assistant of the Archdiocese of São Paulo valued the holding of the first meeting to prepare the next World Youth Day (WYD) with the presence of members of the Local Organizing Committee (COL), namely D. Américo Aguiar, president of the WYD Lisbon 2023 Foundation .
“It is a joy and a privilege to count on your presence in the Archdiocese of São Paulo”, he said.
The meeting of young people from Brazilian representatives of the Archdiocese of the episcopal regions and young people who come from new communities, who mobilize “a large number of young people” and are “excited” for other young people for the day, said Bishop Carlos Lema.

“When in these lands, we see that the days are part of communication with these young people, but we get to the detail and the invitation has to be made and insisted in the way Pope Francis asks us”.

After the Archdiocese of São Paulo, the presentation of WYD Lisbon 2023 will take place during the 59th Assembly of the CNBB (National Assembly of Bishops of Brazil) and in meetings with young people in various regions of Brazil, namely Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Brasília , Belém and Fortaleza.
