AAI signs MoU with Sweden for smart and sustainable technology
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and LFV Air Navigation Services of Sweden (LUFTFARTSVERKET) signed a memorandum of understanding today at AAI’s headquarters in New Delhi.
The agreement brings together two air traffic service providers, India and Sweden, with demonstrated ability to build and operationalize the next generation of sustainable aviation technology, to explore smart flight solutions. This MoU will pave the way for a bilateral exchange of aviation expertise and technology between the two countries. It will allow Indian companies to accelerate growth while benefiting from Swedish innovation and expertise. Under the supervision of the MoU, the companies can cooperate in areas of mutual interest.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Mr. M. Suresh, Member (Air Navigation Services), AAI, and Mr. Magnus Corell, Deputy Director General, LFV Sweden. The event was attended by Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman, AAI; Malin Cederfeldt Östberg, State Secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure, Government of Sweden, HE Klas Molin, Ambassador of Sweden to India and HE Tanmaya Lal, Ambassador of India to Sweden. The event was attended by senior officials from AAI, LFV, the Embassy of Sweden, New Delhi and Business Sweden – Swedish Trade & Invest Council.
Recognizing the urgent need for rapid development of next-generation smart airports and the necessity to build sustainable transportation systems, both parties agreed to the following parts of the MoU:
- Aeronautical Knowledge Exchange and Technology Transfer Programme
- Promote close and friendly relations between the two agencies
- Aim to expand technical cooperation at airports
- Support the development of a safe, secure, sustainable and efficient aviation sector
- Positive contributions to promote bilateral and international trade
On this occasion, Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman, Airports Authority of India congratulated the Government of India and the Government of Sweden for taking this initiative to collaborate to strengthen India’s efforts for the development of an efficient, safe, secure and sustainable aviation sector. He expressed confidence that the mutual exchange in civil aviation between AAI and LFV Sweden will go a long way in building and operationalizing the next generation of smart and sustainable aviation technology.
Klas Molin, Sweden’s ambassador to India, spoke about the long-standing cooperation between India and Sweden. “We look forward to this addition to the already expansive India-Sweden collaboration, which already includes sustainability, health, innovation and energy, and will now extend to civil aviation. I look forward to seeing how the MoU can create more opportunities for Sweden and India to explore climate-smart solutions in the aviation sector.”
When Shri Tanmaya Lal, India’s ambassador to Sweden gave his speech, he mentioned that “Sweden’s partnership in India is on the rise. This MoU covers further new ground and will facilitate technology collaborations to improve safety, sustainability and efficiency in the aviation sector. This is an important development also in the context of the booming regional air connectivity in India.”
Areas of cooperation and business plan
AAI and LFV, both government agencies in India and Sweden respectively, will cooperate in the following cooperation areas:
- Air traffic control
- Air traffic control
- Remote control of airports and traffic control
- Airspace design and planning
- Airport design and infrastructure
- Digitized airport and flight
- Ability and education
- Sustainable airports and flights
- Processes for pilots
- Processes for scaling up
A Joint Working Group is to be organized to prioritize areas of interest and drive cooperation between the two countries. This MoU will play a crucial role in promoting government-to-government engagement between India and Sweden in the aviation sector in addition to other existing engagements such as sustainability, healthcare, innovation, energy, infrastructure, etc.
