Criticism of low heating subsidy: “Almost embarrassing”
politics
Due to the sharp rise in energy prices, it is not enough that the state of Salzburg is only increasing the heating cost subsidy by 20 euros. Liberals and communists criticize that. Salzburg should be based on more generous federal states such as Burgenland or Tyrol. Social Officer and LHstv. Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens) sees it differently.
The state of Salzburg will pay out 200 euros in heating subsidy to needy households next January – 20 euros more than at the beginning of the year.
“Salzburg model quickly becomes embarrassing”
For local councilor Kay Michael Dankl from the communists, that’s not enough: “Heating costs are rising across all energy sources. Burgenland increases the subsidy to 400 euros, the state of Tyrol even pays 500. It’s a bit embarrassing that Salzburg tops it up with a meager 20 euros.”
FPÖ country leader Marlene Svazek looks very similar: “In view of the price increases, 300 euros would definitely be appropriate. This would require an increase in the upper income limit.”
Schellhorn criticized as champion of economy
Both Svazek and Dankl find it incomprehensible that single people who earn more than 979 euros a month do not receive a heating subsidy. At least here the responsible government politician Heinrich Schellhorn wants to change something: “We will look at that after the pension increase. That will be late October and early November.”
The social officer does not want to increase the amount of 200 euros in heating costs for the time being. There are also other supports for low-income households, which are, according to Schellhorn.
