The documentary ‘Bécquer y las Brujas’ crosses borders and will be screened in Andorra
‘Bécquer and the Witches’ crosses borders. The Aragonese documentary, directed by Elena Cid, will be one of the protagonists of the I Andorran Witchcraft Conference, to be held in Sant Julià de Lòria, between August 30 and September 3. And it is that, in addition to recovering the lesser-known side of the Sevillian writer, the film delves into the figure of witches from a historical and social perspective.
The feature film, -which stars Laura Contreras, Rubén Martínez (Elite, Vis a Vis or La maternal, by Pilar Palomero) and Laura Gómez Lacueva (Historias Lamentables, El Pueblo and La que se avecina)-, will be screened next August 31.
Its director Elena Cid, who will participate in the presentation, will also address the role played by the Inquisition in the history of the persecution of women branded as witches.

The original story by Elena Cid of the lesser-known work and life of Bécquer has garnered notable success among the public and several awards. ‘Bécquer and the Witches’ was the winning work in the VIII Simón Awards, -which are awarded every year by the Aragonese Film Academy-, by winning four of the six awards for which it was nominated: best editing, best screenplay, best direction and best documentary. The film also won Augusto Aragonés Visions of History Award at the 24th Zaragoza Film Festival and the award for best documentary at the eighth edition of the Nunes International Film Festival. In addition, it obtained the special mention of the Young Jury for the best national feature film in the Madrid Film Festival.
‘Bécquer and the witches’ is a production of dysentropic movies, in co-production with Mano Negra Films and Aragón TV and with the support of the Zaragoza Provincial Council, the Aragón Government, Aragón Tourism, the Zaragoza City Council and with the participation of Canal Sur.
Elena Cid is now immersed in a new and ambitious project: the Biography of an icon of Aragonese, Spanish and world culture, the dancer, teacher and choreographer, Victor Ullatewhich is collected in a feature film documentary film, Ullate. The Dance of Lifewhose premiere is scheduled for next year.
