San Marino. Dead cat shot with air pistol. Apas urges the judiciary: “Do not underestimate cases of mistreatment”
The San Marino Animal Protection Association expresses “great regret for the crime of killing an animal that took place yesterday in broad daylight in a residential area of the Republic of San Marino against the kitten Amelia who died this morning following injuries from a compressed air gun reported”.
The episode, as reported by the owner yesterday on social media, took place in the Casole area. “The owner – explains Apas in a note – heartbroken by the loss and worried about the other animals she has in the family, she has contacted us after having already report to the Gendarmerie and in spite of ourselves we refer that this is not the first case in the area. In particular, two cases occurred in Murata, in Via delle Carrare, between the end of November and the beginning of December 2018 and a cat owned was injured several times with a weapon in February 2019 in Faetano “.
The last episode reported was on February 17, 2022 when a cat was recovered seriously injured by a project in Via della Tana, resulting in the loss of a paw. Also on this occasion APAS filed a complaint for animal abuse pursuant to Article 282 bis of the CP.
“However – explain the animal rights activists – we learned with disbelief that this criminal case has also been closedas unfortunately happens more and more often when it comes to crimes against animals “.
Then the complaint: “Even today in San Marino the mistreatment of animals is considered a crime of social alarm despite the lesser social sciences have selected the close society acts of violence carried out on animals and on weak human subjects: those who commit acts of violence against animals is more likely to commit acts of violence against minors, women and the elderly ”.
“From the vet reports of the previous cases of mistreatment and killing it appeared that the weapons used were air compressed rifles and carbines, the latter in particular, hunting weapons extremely dangerous for the safety of animals and people, as they were able to strike at very long distances.
APAS therefore urges the judiciary not to underestimate them and to carry out targeted investigations to trace the culprits hoping that this time the death of the kitten Amelia does not go unpunished. Ask for a careful investigation by the police, in order to ascertain the culprits, as well as to verify the improper use of weapons from homes or near them, in order to prevent episodes such as those sadly happened “.
