Islanders defender Sebastian Aho was arrested in Sweden for suspected drunk driving
New York Islanders defenseman Sebastian Aho was fined 40,000 Swedish kronor ($3,769) after he was arrested in Sweden. Aho was reportedly arrested for drunk driving after being stopped at a checkpoint around 10:30 a.m. local time. Aho’s attorney, Claude Lemieux, issued a statement saying his client is “very sorry.”
“He had no idea he would still be over the limit the next morning and felt 100 per cent, but unfortunately he made a mistake and he is very sorry!”
Aho’s driver’s license is said to have been suspended as a result of the arrest. An official statement from Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello, who is also president of Hockey Operations. Lamoriello should have a copy of the police report, which says Aho’s blood alcohol content is 0.03.
Lomoriello also said, “Sebastian apologizes for his mistake and as an organization we will work with him to make sure this never happens again.”
Aho is a former 35th overall pick in the NHL draft. Aho was a Group Six unrestricted free agent last offseason before ending up signing with the Islanders on a two-year, $825,000 deal. The 26-year-old played 36 games for the Islanders last season, scoring two goals and totaling 10 assists.
