AAI signs MoU with Sweden to facilitate smart, sustainable aeronautical cooperation | India is blooming
New Delhi: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and LFV Air Navigation Services of Sweden (LUFTFARTSVERKET) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at AAI’s headquarters in New Delhi, the aviation ministry said.
The agreement brings together two air traffic service providers, India and Sweden, with demonstrated capabilities to build and operationalize the next generation of sustainable aviation technology, to explore smart aviation solutions, according to the statement.
This MoU will pave the way for bilateral exchange of aviation expertise and technology between the two countries.
It will allow Indian companies to accelerate growth while benefiting from Swedish innovation and expertise.
Under the supervision of the MoU, the companies can cooperate in areas of common interest.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by M. Suresh, Member (Air Navigation Services), AAI and Magnus Corell, Deputy Director General, LFV Sweden.
The event was attended by Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman, AAI, Malin Cederfeldt Östberg, State Secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure, Government of Sweden, Klas Molin, Ambassador of Sweden to India and Tanmaya Lal, Ambassador of India to Sweden.
The event was attended by senior officials from AAI, LFV, the Embassy of Sweden, New Delhi and Business Sweden – Swedish Trade & Invest Council.
Recognizing the urgent need for rapid development of next-generation smart airports and the necessity to build sustainable transportation systems, both parties agreed to the following parts of the MoU:
Aeronautical Knowledge Exchange and Technical Transfer Program; Promote close and friendly relations between the two agencies; Aim to expand technical cooperation at airports; Support the development of a safe, secure, sustainable and efficient aviation sector; Positive contributions to promote bilateral and international trade.
On this occasion, Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman, Airports Authority of India congratulated the Government of India and the Government of Sweden for taking the initiative to collaborate to strengthen India’s efforts for the development of an efficient, safe, secure and sustainable aviation sector.
He expressed confidence that the mutual exchange in civil aviation between AAI and LFV Sweden will go a long way in building and operationalizing the next generation of smart and sustainable aviation technology.
Klas Molin, Sweden’s ambassador to India, spoke about the long-standing cooperation between India and Sweden.
“We look forward to this addition to the already expansive India-Sweden collaboration, which already includes sustainability, health, innovation, energy, and will now extend to civil aviation. I look forward to seeing how the memorandum of understanding can create more opportunities for Sweden and India to explore climate-smart solutions in the aviation sector, he says.
While delivering his speech, Tanmaya Lal, Ambassador of India to Sweden mentioned that “Sweden’s partnership in India is on the rise. This MoU covers another new ground and will facilitate technology collaborations to improve safety, sustainability and efficiency in the aviation sector. This is an important development also in conjunction with the booming regional air connectivity in India.”

Remote control of airports and traffic control
Airspace design and planning
Airport design and infrastructure
Digitized airport and flight
Ability and education
Sustainable airports and flights
Processes for pilots
Processes for scaling up
A Joint Working Group is to be organized to prioritize areas of interest and drive cooperation between the two countries.
This MoU will play a crucial role in promoting government-to-government engagement between India and Sweden in the aviation sector in addition to other existing engagements such as sustainability, healthcare, innovation, energy and infrastructure etc.
