San Marino. Bugli (Pdcs) has the solution to the water crisis: “Groundwater can be a fundamental supply tool for us”
“Even if the political debate seems to be exhausting mostly around a flag question, the country is traversed by emergencies that demand timely and concrete answers”.
“One of these,” he explains in a statement Lorenzo Bugli, councilor of the San Marino Christian Democratic Party and president of the youth movement of the Pdcs itself, Young Christian Democrats of San Marino“Is without a doubt theWater Emergencywhich for months has been literally bringing our crops to their knees and causing very serious damage to all companies in the agricultural and agri-food sector “.
Faced with this problem, “politics seems to be made of fog: the debate around these issues has been dry and sterile, not to mention non-existent; we are talking about a critical issue that has direct repercussions and tangible consequences for the San Marino economy ”.
Faced with this, Bugli believes that “politics has a duty, especially in this phase, to put aside the smoky chatter and the useless reprimands of responsibility to formulate proposals and meet the needs of local farmers”.
And again: “In recent days I have had the privilege of being able to propose myself with San Marino experts, engineers and geologists and I believe, in this consideration, to be able to formulate a proposal that could at least be considered to be in debt. Not everyone knows, in fact, that there is a certain number of in the San Marino area aquifers underground, which have been appropriately mapped and in detail by our technicians. Among these, one in particular stands out, that of the so-called Parataio, in correspondence of which once stood the old aqueduct of Montegiardino, source of water support for our territory. Times have changed, this is true, but I believe that the flaps can go back to being one fundamental water supply tool for our Republic“.
“It is no coincidence”, says Bugli, “resolution of the Congress of State.19 of 2021 that a working group called in July the feasibility of the possible creation of reservoirs for the recovery of water is set up; it is precisely from this point that San Marino policy should restart, giving new impetus and relaunching the activity of the working group ”.
“For a year now, the Environmental and Agricultural Resources Management Office has also started a survey of the whole territory to identify investment opportunities suitable for water recovery – insist the Christian Democrat -. Therefore, it is not necessary to look too far to respond to the water emergency, but it is sufficient to dwell on the resources already present within our borders and know how to exploit them. For example, one could create cisterns, also in plastic, which have the function of storing water from the groundwater in order to be able to redistribute it in favor of San Marino crops during periods of very strong drought “.
“An answer that alone, yes, would not be enough to meet the needs of the entire Republic, but that perhaps can provide a solution during the emergency phases. Another action should be associated with this action, namely the recovery of the so-called ‘botacci’: tanks that were once positioned at the mills to ensure that they continue to grind and produce even in the face of a shortage of water. Two graduate theses made by two former San Marino students are dedicated to the recovery of the ‘botacci’, who hypothesize the interventions of these structures in a conservative key ”, finally affirms Bugli.
