Portugal worse than the EU in almost everything
It’s the end of a time, a powerful symbol of the return to pre-covid normality – but now with the disease still out there to kill, but being part of life, like all other diseases. The Minister of Health, Marta Temido, announced yesterday that the use of a mask on public transport is no longer mandatory. “Given the maintenance of the favorable evolution available, with a controlled trend in the use of health care and also with scientific information, [o Conselho de Ministros] be suitable to end the obligation to use masks or visors in public passenger transport and also in taxis and TVDE”, he said.
Atoriety was imposed on March 13, 2020, by decree nº 10-A, when there was still no obligation on anyone covid in Portugal (the first death was reported three days later).
It was therefore 892 days ago (two years, five months and nine days). In other words, the use of a mask on public transport will be mandatory after half of the Portuguese population (5.4 million) has been infected; and after nearly 25,000 people died7 (24,79, according to the most recent data). The use of the mask is now only mandatory in health units and nursing homes. He also left the being in pharmacies and on airplanes. The government decree is now awaiting presidential enactment.
The mask began to become a “compartment of the same enterprise and it worsened in October, when Parliament proceeded with the streets” impractical.” Only in the past, more than two years after arriving in Portugal, did the Government decree April the end of the mask in classrooms.
The possible, now after this return to normality, reveals – based on data from the Our world in data – that, in the two most important items for the assessment as consequences of the pandemic – infected and deaths – Portugal was worse than average. In fact, there is only one value in which Portugal shows a situation (slightly) better than the EU media: in the total number of deaths (per capita) recorded since the beginning of the pandemic (see tables above).
27.8 deaths per day
Moreover, in other comparisons with the EU, Portugal is always below the EU average. It is (quite) and the worst incidents in values (per capita) and the worst results in the current situation (new infected per day) are also in the total number of new infected per capita since the beginning of the pandemic. In all, Portugal has recorded an average of 27.8 deaths per day since Covid-19 arrived and 6054 new infections every 24 hours.
Comparisons also do not go well when national values are on one side and world average values on the other. Then the situation is always worse whichever item is chosen, infected or dead, currently or overall. But here it can also be at issue as global averages or distorted by the unreliability of many national figures.
Yesterday, Health, also announced that the anticipation of seasonal flu against covid-start on the 5th, an opinion of the European Medicines Agency before combined. It is known how to define the beginning of the seasonal campaign that maintains health between covid-19 and the beginning of the seasonal campaign that begins on September 5, Marta Temido.
The press given to journalists at a conference at the end of the Council of Ministers meeting and autumn preparation on health in the period from and in underlined that, regarding the covid-19 pandemic, regarding the covid-19 pandemic, regarding the severity remains the most effective measure.
Starting over in September, the presentation of the 2 strategy starts after the complaint that follows against a covid-1 process was brought forward next on the 5th.
