Free list will achieve climate neutrality as early as 2040 – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – The hot summer, the heavy rainfall and the war in Ukraine make one thing clear for Freie Liste: If we in Liechtenstein want to continue to live well and in peace in the future, we need to become climate-neutral quickly and switch to renewable energies. For this reason, she will present a position paper on “Climate Neutrality 2040” in September.
In June 2022, the government presented its “Climate Strategy 2050” so that the public could draw up a statement during the summer holidays and submit it in mid-August. However, the climate strategy has an impact on the lives of the entire population and should therefore be widely discussed, emphasizes Freie Liste in its broadcast. The timing of the public consultation over the summer months, when many people go on vacation and don’t have time, is therefore unfortunate. For this reason, instead of commenting on the government draft, Freie Liste has drawn up its own climate position paper, which is to be up for discussion from autumn.
According to Freie Liste, the core of the position paper will be the demand to become climate-neutral 10 years earlier, i.e. by 2040. With the “Climate Strategy 2050” concept, the government is letting unnecessary time pass, which people do not have in the fight against climate change. Freie Liste therefore wants to present its position paper “Climate neutrality 2040” in a good month, on September 27, 2022. At this upcoming event, the Freie Liste, together with Adi Gross, member of the Austrian Federal Council (Greens) and climate protection expert, will also discuss how Liechtenstein needs to proceed in order to be climate-neutral by 2040.
