Intermodal hub of the station, projects approved for the adaptation of sidewalks, cycle accessibility and waiting areas for local public transport stops
The improvement and redevelopment interventions of the station area, the strategic intermodal hub of the city, are continuing. After the completion, last May, of the work to improve the sidewalks of the seaside station area, in yesterday’s session the City Council approved the technical and economic / definitive / executive feasibility projects for the adaptation of the sidewalks, cycle accessibility and waiting areas at the stops of the local public transport lines present in piazzale Cesare Battisti, mountain side. The project involves a total investment of around 210 thousand euros, entirely financed with the contribution assigned to the Municipality of Rimini as part of the PNRR (mission 2: green revolution and ecological transition). The aim of the project is to facilitate the accessibility of the public transport stops and expand the waiting spaces for the benefit of users, in order to guarantee a better use of the area, especially in consideration of the large turnout in the summer due to the presence of tourists and in the winter at peak times for commuters and students. At the same time, a reorganization and separation of pedestrian and cycling flows will be carried out, some areas will be repaved and the sidewalk on the mountain side of Piazzale Cesare Battisti will be widened, which connects the new station square with different routes towards the city center. The intervention involves the completion of the cycle path on the sea side of Piazzale Battisti, connecting it with the existing section on Via Graziani, the reconstruction of the cycle / pedestrian crossing in front of the Artrov and the section of the sidewalk on the mountain side, the reconstruction of the TPL rest areas , with widening of the sidewalk and in the separation, on the sidewalk, of the cycle path, in asphalt with red resin coating, from the pedestrian one. The new sidewalk will be equipped with paving with tactile paths for the visually impaired and blind on the main routes and up to the TPL stops, suitably connected with the existing paths. The horizontal and vertical signs will be suitably adapted. The predispositions of the underground lines for the passage of the optical fiber will also be inserted. Finally, it is planned to increase public lighting by inserting street lamps on the upstream side of the pavement and laying new underground lines on the entire portion involved in the works. The pedestrian graft will be harmonized with Corso Giovanni XXIII via the construction of a flower bed.
