Durance: a regional greenway
As part of the regional cycle route planThe objective is to connect the Durance from its source to its mouth. If the two southern Alpine departments provide this link from Monêtier-les-Bains (Hautes-Alpes), the Joint Syndicate for the Development of the Durance Valley (SMAVD) manages the downstream part to Avignon-Confluence.
Bouches du Rhône side, the syndicate carries out the linear from Meyrargues to Plan-d’Orgon, the departmental council ensuring the connection, then, until Barbentane. The bikes are already rolling over the 17 km between Mallemort and La Roque-d’Anthéron. Work on Mallemort-Sénas will end in spring 2023 over 9 km. Sénas-Plan d’Orgon should see the light of day in 2025 once the agreements on the financing and management of the roads have been finalized with the local authorities. Work on the Saint-Estève-Janson to Meyragues section will begin in the first quarter of 2023.
South Luberon
Vaucluse sidework on the Pertuis-Villelaure junction begins within the same time frame, followed by the section from Villelaure to the Cadenet bridge, to be reached in 2023. The line then extends towards the Mallemort bridge, mainly via the departmental road.
To the east, the SMAVD is preparing the development of the Pertuis track to Mirabeau. ” We carry out 90% of this road network on our own site on quarry, fishing, hunting and dyke paths with limestone gravel that looks like stabilized and conforms to these sites. Nature 2000 “, Explain Celine Miailhehead of the Valuation department of the SMAVD.
Bompas-Confluence
On Avignon, the City, the conurbation, the SNCF, the National Company of the Rhone (CMR) and the union work together to pacify a linear victim of numerous incivilities between the railway bridge and the electricity production dam east of the Bonpas bridge, route indicated to the SMAVD. This greenway section will take the Durance embankment from the dam to the Cemex cement plant over 3.1 meters, once the restructuring work on the structure initiated in 2024 has been completed.
The SMAVD studies integrate the construction of future equipment to reduce the Bonpas plug. The county council is currently finalizing the studies (€970,000) on this project for a future €25 million interchange with five scenarios that incorporate a carpooling area created by Vinci accessible by soft route. The work, planned from 2024 to 2026 as part of the treatment of regional black spots, should make it possible to smooth traffic from 24,000 to 45,000 vehicles per day.
The City of Avignon will carry out, in 2023, the development of 5.3 km of the Chemin des Canals, partly on its own site to join the Chemin de Bel-Air, then soft routes to the new Bonpas interchange from here its inauguration announced for 2028. By then, the City will have a shared greenway for 2024 from the Trillade roundabout, transformed in 2023 on the Rocade, to the Durance.
