Cologne coach Baumgart teases BVB and Anthony Modeste
“We’re seeing right now that if a team doesn’t act like that, you might not score as many goals as before. You have to say it so clearly,” said Steffen Baumgart on Sunday (21 August) before the Bundesliga match between Eintracht Frankfurt and 1. FC Köln (1-1). DAZN about BVB new signing Anthony Modeste (BVB transfer news at RUHR24).
Modeste has not scored a goal in his two previous appearances for Borussia Dortmund. Baumgart sees one reason for this at BVB: “There is no question that Tony was something extraordinary for us. But what distinguished Tony last year was the team behind him.”
Steffen Baumgart Ledert against BVB: “For us, the team is above everything”
Steffen Baumgart continued: “Anthony Modeste was an important player, but responsibility on the pitch was shared by Jonas Hector, Florian Kainz and Benno Schmitz. For us, the team is above everything. We live from the collective.”
Modeste recently switched from “Effzeh” to BVB for five million euros. At the Ruhrpott-Klub, the 34-year-old striker is to replace Sébastien Haller, who has been absent from BVB for a month due to a testicular tumor.
Cologne coach Steffen Baumgart pissed off about Modeste’s move to BVB
“It pisses me off that something like this comes out on the day of the match,” Steffen Baumgart cursed: This meant Anthony Modeste’s move to BVB, which happened immediately before Cologne’s 1st Bundesliga game against FC Schalke 04 (3: 1) was leaked and became official the next day.
“It didn’t come from us,” Baumgart emphasized. “We’re in a difficult situation four hours before the game and as a coach I’ve got the arse card. It’s just proper that you keep something like that under the cover and don’t walk around with it in a boastful manner.”
