The president of Marseille points out the system of anti-noise windows of Baumettes
The president of the bar of Marseille, Jean-Raphaël Fernandez, asserted his right of visit by going Monday morning to the penitentiary center of Baumettes in order to note the conditions of incarceration of the prisoners.
During his visit, he notably noted the consequences of the anti-noise windows, installed in the cells in order to respond to local residents complaining of noise pollution. An installation that deprives prisoners of air, denounces the president. “Most of the content I encountered told me that day or night was unbearable,” said Jean-Raphaël Fernandez to Provence, before adding: “It’s a problem that will have to be solved.” Among the tracks adapted by the administration, the construction of a screen installed along the establishment in order to reduce noise pollution and wild living rooms.
Asked about prison overcrowding, the chairman also mentioned the figure of 171% occupancy rate. An overpopulation thatdegrades the functioning of the prison and infringes the rights of defendants“, according to him. “We won’t be able to continue like this for months and years,” he alerted.
