Norway with a clear call to Russia
In a meeting room in New York, the UN Security Council gathered on Tuesday evening Norwegian time.
The meeting had a theme: The safety of the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhya in Ukraine.
The power plant has been under Russian control since March, but in recent weeks the fighting around the power plant has picked up.
– Stop the war
– No mercy
At the Security Council meeting on Tuesday, Norway had a clear appeal to Russia:
– Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine has endangered nuclear safety, not only in Ukraine but also in the rest of Europe. In the meeting of the Security Council today, Norway once again asked Russia to stop the war and withdraw its forces from Ukraine immediately, says deputy head of the UN delegation, Trine Heimerback, who represented Norway in the meeting, to Dagbladet.

Fears “particularly brutal attacks”
Heimerback sat right next to the Russian representative.
On Wednesday, there will be another meeting of the Security Council, on the occasion of six months since the start of the war.
Among other things, it is expected that Zelenskyj will address the council, and Norway and several other countries in the Security Council have asked UN Secretary-General António Guterres to give an account of his recent trip to Turkey.

– Rejected as a hoax
– Circus
It is Russia that has called today’s meeting about the power plant.
The Ukrainian representative at the meeting was far from impressed with how the meeting went.
– I wish we were gathered here by Russia to hear the only thing the world wants to hear: A statement that Russia will demilitarize the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and withdraw, says Ukraine’s representative Serhiy Kyslytsia and continues:
– Instead, we have listened to false statements for an hour.
