NÎMES Shooting at Chemin-Bas-d’Avignon: the seven prolonged police custody
The Nîmes prosecutor’s office extended, this Tuesday, August 23, the police custody of the seven young men arrested on Sunday, at the start of the afternoon, after ” many gunshots heard in the Chemin-Bas-d’Avignon district.
In broad daylight on Sunday, the police intervened after reports of numerous shots at the Portal. The gunshots even trained as law enforcement departed. But they were able to arrest seven suspects, one of whom was armed with a shotgun.
The five young adults and the two minors are from Bouches-du-Rhône, Aude or Hérault. Faced with their silence, their custody is now extended by 48 hours. The investigators sought in particular to understand the reasons for these shots – probably intimidation shots to appropriate neighborhood deal points -, the simultaneous presence of these people from outside the department in the neighborhood, and the possible link between the shots on Sunday and those on Thursday evening.
Regarding this first episode during which shots were directed at a building, the five people arrested were indicted for participation in a criminal association, destruction of property and narcotics. They were all incarcerated.
