New software connects the real world with the virtual one
The new technology is not only interesting for game developers and gamers: “The real world will soon be mirrored in the digital world,” says company founder and managing director Thomas Weiss: “In the future, every object will also have a digital twin. This offers companies great opportunities and additional sources of income.”
How to prevent counterfeiting?
However, whenever an object in the digital world is connected to a monetary value in real life, the question arises as to how secure this connection is. This can be illustrated in the gaming industry, where such questions are already part of everyday life, explains Michael Radic, Chief Business Officer at Authentic Vision.
For example, someone buys a Pokémon trading card or a plastic figure of a computer game character. At the same time, the figure shown is activated in the customer’s game. “It has charm to combine these two worlds,” says Radic. “Merchandise products can be used twice, which makes them more valuable and, as a result, leads to higher sales.”
“Authenticity” of Digital Swords
In online role-playing games, it is common to buy new swords or new armor. “Increasingly, when players purchase gear for their digital characters, it’s done with NFT technology,” says Radic. The buyer receives a digital token that identifies them as the owner of an item. “These digital added values are often exclusive.” Customers should also be able to trust that a rare or unique piece will not be sold more than once. It is important that the NFT is authentic and real. And this is where Authentic Vision comes in.
“Highest level of security”
What is new is not the possibility of establishing a connection between the real and the digital world – this would also be possible via QR codes or links – but the high level of security. For this purpose, the company has developed the “Meta Anchor”, which works with a holographic fingerprint. This imprint, which is stuck on the product packaging, cannot be reproduced and cannot be output digitally as a photo or video. Only when it is checked with an app and recognized as clearly genuine are digital experiences or objects released.
Authentic Vision is confident that this trend will not just be limited to video games, but WILL extend to human appearance in the future. People will then buy the latest branded or designer clothing additionally or exclusively for the virtual appearance. The wardrobe is then projected into the VR glasses of everyone who meets the owner. Sporting goods manufacturer Nike recently acquired a company that allows shoes or hoodies to be modified for augmented reality.
