MotoGP | Joan Mir to miss the Misano San Marino GP after accident in Austria | P300.it
The fractured right ankle will prevent Mir from racing in Misano in two weeks. Possible return to Aragon.
The 2022 season of Joan Mir and Suzuki is going from bad to worse and what happened in Austrian GP last Sunday is just another tile on the year of the former MotoGP champion, perhaps the heaviest. During the first lap of the race at the Red Bull Ring, the # 36 was the victim of a violent highside and on landing on the gravel he fractured the talus bone in his right heel.
The fracture, also found through an MRI, is not large, but at the Miramar hospital in Palma de Mallorca a second check is carried out by Dr. Juan Garcías, in which further damage was found to the right side of the bone and ligaments. This is the complete diagnosis: “The patient had a talus-canal ligament injury with a small bone avulsion. He had a stable tibiofibular joint, but bone contusion on the head of the talus. In this case, the tibiofibular joint was stable and there was no total instability in the navicular. Conclusion: astragal-calcaneal-navicular ligament injury with grade I – II instability “.
Mir will be forced to a fifteen-day rest period, which will not allow him to compete in the Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera on 4 September. Suzuki is considering whether to field a replacement or whether to play the weekend with only Álex Rins.
“After having carried out several tests”, explains Mir, “The doctors advised me to take fifteen days off and to do another evaluation after this period. two I will miss the Misano race, but I am confident of being able to return to Aragón. I want to thank Dainese and AGV for protecting me and avoiding a more serious injury after the bad blow I received on Sunday. It has been a tough season, but I am convinced that we will come back stronger so that we can give other good moments to the team and to all of you who support me ”.
Even Livio Suppo, the Ecstar team manager, had his say. “I’m really sorry for Joan. Problems during difficult seasons. In any case, be relieved. The accident was really big and in the end the injury is serious, but it could be worse, so let’s stay positive and see how she will recover in the next fifteen days, hoping she can be better ”.
