Portugal returns to Russian gas this Tuesday to receive. It is the third time since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
For the third time since the war in Ukraine began, Portugal returns this Tuesday to natural gas from Russia. The Yakov Gakkel ship should dock in Sines at 6:30 am this Tuesday, August 23, according to the latest data released by the Port of Sines.
Flying the Bahamas flag and registered in Nassau, the Yakov Gakkel will unload at the REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais terminal liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Sabetta terminal, on the Yamal peninsula, in northern Russia, from where most of the of Russian gas that does not go by pipeline to the center of Europe.
The Yakov Gakkel is a ship built in 2019, measuring 283 meters in length. She has 37 trips, according to data released on the Port of Sines website.
This is the third shipment of Russian gas that has arrived in Portugal since the start of the war in Ukraine. The first arrived in Sines on March 4, via the ship Vladimir Vize, transporting gas contracted by the Spanish Naturgy (formerly Gas Natural Fenosa) under a term contract that started in 2018 and ends in 2038.
The newspaper “Público”, which revealed on Saturday a distribution associated with the Yakov Gak, questioned Natur about the destination of the gas transported by this ship, but received no response (also in March, when the Express questioned Naturgy about the Vladimir Vize and gave Russian gas future, the company did not clarify).
