Information about the elections: Dates, opening times and facts about the elections
In September and October, elections are held within 14 days. In Innsbruck, around 82,000 people are entitled to vote in both elections. However, the exact number differs due to the cut-off date. Voting cards can be applied for from August 24th for the state elections and from September 7th for the federal presidential election.
INNSBRUCK. A new state parliament will be elected in Tyrol on September 25th. 14 days later the presidential elections take place. In Innsbruck, citizens are called upon to cast their votes in more than 150 electoral districts. The polling stations are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The two districts 104 and 120, which were previously located in the Stubaital train station, Pater-Reinisch-Weg 4, will be relocated to the University of Education, Pastorstraße 7 and are now barrier-free.
Different number of eligible voters
Eligible to vote in both elections are Austrian citizens who have reached the age of 16 with a delay on the day of the respective election, have their main residence in Innsbruck and are not disqualified from voting, as well as on the respective key date (state election June 28, 2022, federal presidential election August 9) are registered in the electoral register. There is also a difference in the number of voters. While 81,206 people are allowed to vote in the state election, there are 82,914 in the federal presidential election.

Anyone who is prevented from voting on the day of the election but still wishes to cast their vote can apply for an absentee ballot, stating the reason for their inability to attend. For die State elections are possible from Wednesday, August 24th. The absentee ballot must either be sent by post or handed in at the polling station in the polling district concerned, where IST is entered. As in previous years, there is the possibility this year to fill out the absentee ballot in protected polling booths next to the absentee ballot office and hand it in directly there in a secure ballot box. Persons entitled to vote can also submit applications for absentee ballots for the state elections in writing and online, with written applications having to be received by September 20th. For die Presidential election applies that an absentee ballot may only be applied for with a specific reason for being unable to attend. There will be an absentee ballot office in the City Hall, 6th floor, room 6103, during the opening hours Mon.-Thu. 8.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m., Fri. 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for the personal application. This is planned from September 7, 2022.

Declarations of support for the election of the Federal President can be submitted during the opening hours of the registration office, Mon-Thu, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Fri. 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. On Thursday, August 25, 2022, this service will also be available from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Also during this time, statements of support on the 1st floor of the town hall, rooms 1203 and 1207 will be confirmed. There you will be forwarded to the digital application for an absentee ballot. The absentee ballot can already be applied for online.
