EU Association, the PSD proposes a European Affairs Council Commission
In the political party held at the Friendship Day, the Party of Socialists and Democrats proposed to establish a European Affairs Council Commission. It is a realistic and innovative proposal. Secretary Gerardo Giovagnoli declared the need for a change of pace not only because San Marino, in order to be outside the European Union, must however and increasingly adapt to European politics, given that we are part of geographic Europe with its trade , its relations and its rules among the 27 member states including neighboring Italy. The change of pace is also urgent because the negotiations with the European Union seem to be heading for a conclusion within the short space of a year. Underwater from the punctuality of the forecasts, the need for this change of pace in our European integration policy is certain. The point is that Europe is now the whole life of our state and is not just about foreign affairs. Indeed, it mainly concerns our social life in all its daily dimensions such as work and the economy, education and culture, the territory and the environment. It concerns our personal life in terms of rights and duties and multiple relationships that perhaps at first sight escape us, but are instead concrete and real. We are working on an association agreement with the European Union precisely because we live as San Marino citizens with Europeans and this is our life. It is clear then that for San Marino the European questions are specific and vital political questions; consequently so too is the European integration policy. The Great and General Council is a central pivot of our democracy and the establishment of the European Affairs Commission would allow us to face all this at the right political level, maximizing the capacities of Parliament and thus contributing to maximizing those of the State and society: it would strengthen, in short , our whole community. The European Affairs Commission and therefore would be created in the light of these specificities and their crucial importance. The more we will be able to live this historic moment together by valuing our Republic, the more we will be when we become an associated State of the European Union.
