Cow freed from a dilemma – salzburg.ORF.at
timeline
In the Lattengebirge near Bad Reichenhall, a young cow has got into a dilemma or mountain distress. She is stuck between two trees, was cut out with a chainsaw and lifted up and freed by strong men from the fire brigade and mountain rescue with cable pull.
The alpine farmer on the Lattenbergalm noticed on Sunday afternoon that one of his young cattle was stuck in the trees near the Karspitz. He had previously searched for the animal intensively. Then he found the desperate woman who had obviously been trying to free herself for a long time.
So she got further and further between the tree trunks and finally also hung on the pelvic bone. The animal was now powerless and slumped rather weakly on the ground.
Raised with combined forces
The Almbauer made an emergency call by mobile phone, and volunteers from the Schneizlreuth fire brigade and a mountain rescue team from nearby Bad Reichenhall also responded. She cuts down one of the trees, removed branches from the second. The cow was attached to webbing slings, ratchet straps and static rope. A mountain rescuer climbed the tree and installed the deflection. Ten men then joined forces to lift the animal and put it back on its feet.
The cow was able to return to her alpine pasture without outside help. But you could see her exhaustion, says Markus Leitner, spokesman for the Red Cross and mountain rescue service in Berchtesgadener Land.
Thanksgiving food and drink
The 14 firefighters and five mountain rescuers ended their mission at 9:00 p.m. The grateful farmer invited them to the Lattenbergalm for food and drink. The whole thing was framed by a wonderful sunset, says Markus Leitner – pure idyll in Watzmannland.
